We were retained by Clarity Mobile Ventures — a partnership with Clarity Labs in FLA and SG Blocks in NYC — to lead the November 2020 setup opposite Terminal 6 on the grounds of Los Angeles International Airport, with approval by LAWA (Los Angeles World Airports Municipal Authority), during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Portable COVID-19 Testing Labs at LAX

Travelers heading to international destinations and Hawaii were required to take a test and provide proof of health status before being allowed to depart LAX, making these on-site labs a critical part of the airport’s COVID-19 response.

From Shipping Containers to Certified Labs

Assisted in the design, construction, implementation and conversion of marine grade metal storage containers.
Once outfitted properly, these containers became "portable" COVID-19 sample collection sites and actual COVID-19 labs.
Travelers to international destinations and Hawaii were required to take a test and provide proof of health status before being allowed to depart LAX.

A PCR machine — or a thermal cycler — is an instrument that amplifies target nucleic acid sequences into millions of copies via polymerase chain reaction. Thermal cyclers inherit their name because they regulate temperatures in a cyclical program.

How does a thermal cycler work?

Thermal cyclers contain metal blocks that are thermally regulated. Since PCR protocols require different temperatures at different times, thermal cyclers and PCR machines regulate quick heat exchange during the PCR protocol.
